McPherson is the senior pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego, Calif., and a former NFL player with the Los Angeles Rams and the San Diego Chargers.
In his opening message in Wednesday's convocation, he challenged students to assess the vision they have for their life and align it with God's "ba-boom" vision.
"A vision is a picture of your preferred future," McPherson said. "You are always going to have obstacles, but God has given you a dream and his power -- his 'ba-boom' power."
"Ba-Boom" is a term he used to emphasize the power that Christians have with the Holy Spirit to accomplish God's will on earth as Jesus describes in Acts 1:8.
